Architecture

The colonial Baroque church of Glória features a unique polygonal floor plan, formed by two octagons with a tower at the entrance, a design without precedent in Brazil. Following the arrival of the Portuguese royal family in Rio de Janeiro in 1808, numerous members were baptised at the Church of Glória, including the future Queen of Portugal, Maria II, and Brazilian Emperor, Peter II.
