Jan Willem Hessing (also known as John William Hessing) was a Dutch mercenary from Utrecht. He was commander of the Agra Fort serving in the army of the Maratha Empire, when he died of illness on July 21, 1803. His wife Anne commissioned his tomb which is colloquially called "Red Taj".
