Hospices de Beaune, gable dormer

The Hospices de Beaune, established in 1443, was originally a medieval hospital and charitable almshouse. The architectural complex is an exemplar of Burgundian architecture, predominantly of a Brabantine Gothic style with Flamboyant elements. Its distinctive polychrome glazed tile roof, although originally of Central European provenance, became a hallmark of Burgundian architecture. Since 1859, the site hosts an annual charity wine auction that has gained international renown.
