Perugia, Umbria, Italy
Arco Etrusco [Italian]
Arco di Augusto [Italian]
Architecture
Above the arch build of two concentric rows is a frieze with Italo-Corinthian pilaster and round shields in between. The lower part of the frieze shows the inscription “Colonia Vibia”, which testifies to the city's status as ius coloniae, granted by Emperor Trebonianus Gallus in the third century AD. The city’s new name “Augusta Perusia”, which it received after its reconstruction in 40-41 BCE, is carved on the two arch stone rows.
